Ed Stafford ( Full name; Edward James Stafford) is an English explorer. He is the current holder of the Guinness World Record for being the first human ever to walk the length of the Amazon River. Currently, Ed serves as the host of two shows on the Discovery Channel and Channel Four.
In September 1998, Ed joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. After a period of one year of training, he was commissioned in the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment, British Army as a subaltern on 7 August 1999: From 10 August 1996, Ed was granted seniority in the rank of subaltern (second lieutenant) and of subaltern (lieutenant) from 10 August 1998. In 2000, he served a tour of duty in Northern Ireland. Ed was promoted to Captain on 8 February 2002 prior to leaving the British Army on 7 August 2002.

Ed carries with him only his camera, an emergency satellite phone, and an emergency medical kit. His goal is to see if he can survive and thrive under these tough conditions. In the first series, Ed spends sixty days on the uninhabited tropical island of Olorua in the Pacific Ocean.

In the autumn of 2017, a series titled Ed: Left For Dead premiered as a survival show. In 2018, A survival show Ed: First Man Out with a competition format started its production. The show premiered in early 2019. In the show, Ed meets one other survival expert each week in a different part of the world.
