The show Late Night with Conan O’Brien, originating from Studio 6A at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, began on September 13, 1993, to unfavorable reviews from contemporary critics. The reception was not completely unsurprising; he wrote a self-deprecating The New York Times piece titled “O’Brien Flops!” on the day of the show’s start. Critics attacked Conan: Tom Shales of The Washington Post suggested that “the host resume his initial identity, Conan O’Blivion.”Overall, critics viewed him as nervous and fidgety on-camera, and that he was “too smart, too East Coast, too sophisticated, too young as well as even too tall to be successful.”
NBC aired the final episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien on February 20, 2009. This show consisted of a compilation of former Late Night clips and included a surprise appearance by retired sidekick Andy Richter. Will Ferrell, John Mayer, and the White Stripes also appeared. Conan ended the episode by destroying the set with an axe, handing out the pieces of the set to the viewers, and thanking a list of people who helped him get to that point in his career. clips from Conan’s time on Late Night started to appear in 2019 on his TBS website and on the Team Coco YouTube Channel.
Notable for his spontaneous hosting style, which has been characterized as “awkward, self-deprecating humor”, Conan’s late-night programs combine the “lewd and wacky with more elegant, narrative-driven short films (remotes)”.Plus the retirement of David Letterman on May 20, 2015, he became the longest-working late-night talk show host active in the United States. The active streak ended with Conan’s retirement from late-night television in June 2021, with his entire run as a late-night host lasting almost 28 years
