Fred Minnick is an American author, podcaster, and show host. He currently serves as the host of The Fred Minnick Show. As an author, Fred has written seven books and is noted for having a great whiskey palate. Also, Fred is a judge on the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and World Whiskies Awards.
Formerly, he served as the lead American whiskey reviewer for Whiskey Advocate. Apart from that, Fred served as the Bourbon Authority for the Kentucky Derby Museum since 2013. He was the bourbon headliner for the inaugural Bourbon & Beyond Festival. Fred curated the Fireside Chats for the Forecastle Music Festival as well.

Later, Fred appeared in the CNBC report “Whiskey wars: Trade tariffs hit hard in Trump country” further discussing the damage the state of Kentucky and the bourbon industry would suffer due to the tariff. Louisville, Ky-based Bourbon & Beyond music festival debuted in 2017 and Fred has since then worked with Danny Wimmer Presents as the bourbon headliner. In this position, Fred curates more than 30 workshops including tastings, discussions, and historic panels.

Through a pandemic, it no less – all year: It’s Fred’s Best American Whiskey of 2020 still continued all year as Fred tasted bourbon and whiskey each week, he added the best of the bunch to his list for one last, winner-take-all, blind taste-off. The nearly three-hour session became the culmination of a process, giving a few surprises, memorable moments, and finishing as a fine way to cap off a sometimes-beleaguering 2020.
There were nine winners, each across9 categories featuring over 40 whiskeys in total, they culminated in an overall winner. 5 of the finalists won uncontested in their respective categories. The categories included: Best Bourbon, Wildcard Bourbon, Best American Single Malt, Best Blend of Straights, Best Rye, Best Wheat Whiskey, Best Corn Whiskey, Best Celebrity Whiskey, and Best Barrel Finish.
