Its generally accepted that diet plays a vital role in human aging, therefore, conducting randomized clinical trials to elucidate this role is impractical.
According to Peter, researchers must rely on a combination of both animal research and relevant biomarkers in order to estimate how alterations in lifestyle or diet affect human longevity. However, both of those approaches have shortcomings, but they remain the best tools available since no new methodologies have emerged yet. In a Youtube clip, Peter explains the challenges faced while studying how diet and lifestyle affect longevity in humans.
