Previously, he was a professional Baseball pitcher who worked for several major teams including Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, and St. Louis Cardinals. Rick was famously known for his nickname “The Red Baron”.

Rick began his professional career as a baseball pitcher in 1979 when he was recruited by the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his very first full season in the majors, Rick won 17 games and was the first of four consecutive Rookies of the Year for the Dodgers from 1979 to 1982. Although he did not appear in the 1981 World Series championship, the Los Angeles Dodgers awarded him the World Series ring. On December 9, 1981, The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Rick for Jorge Orta of the Cleveland Indians.

At the end of his career, Rick had posted 4 home runs, 55 RBI, 42 runs, 4 stolen bases, and 34 bases on balls.
He began his professional career as a baseball pitcher at the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he worked for two years. In 1981 he left the team and later joined Cleveland Indians in 1982. Rick also worked as a guest analyst for ESPN Radio during the MLB playoffs. He fully joined the station in March 1999 and has been featured on Wednesday Night Baseball since 2002.
