He joined the station in April 2010 working as a correspondent before he became a senior and national correspondent and later the chief national correspondent. In October 2016, Matt was held captive by Venezuelan intelligence agents on a Monday while preparing a news report concerning the dire conditions at the Central Hospital of Valencia. He along with two physicians who were helping him were moved to the government agency’s headquarters in Valencia where they remained in custody for three days.
