Francis Chan is an American preacher, teacher, and Protestant author, and was formerly a teaching pastor of Cornerstone Community Church. The church is an Evangelical church in Simi Valley, California, and it was founded by Chan in 1994. Chan is also the founder of Eternity Bible College. The college was established in 2004 and Chan served as its early chancellor until 2010. After Chan moved to Northern California, he started a church planting network of house churches called “We Are Church”. He served as a top-level leader in the We Are Church network until 2020.
Additionally, Chan has also been a board member of a number of Christian and social justice organizations. Some of these organizations include the Children’s Hunger Fund and the Gospel for Asia organizations. He is also an author and has written so many books that have been ranked bestseller books. One of his best books is titled, Crazy Love. The book is one of the New York Times bestseller books. He once served as an ambassador for Care for Children. Chan moved back to Hong Kong in 2020, and currently lives and works in Sham Shui Po. His mother died during childbirth due to excessive bleeding. Chan has two siblings from his parents, a brother Paul, and a sister Grace. Additionally, he is the third child of his parents. During his childhood, Chan was sent to Hong Kong to be raised by a grandmother, a Buddhist for several years. His father remarried Amy Law during that time. His stepmother Amy, passed on following an automobile accident in 1976 when Chan was eight years old. Chan’s father then remarried Josephine Leung, who raised him and his three siblings lovingly and with Godly influence. During his childhood and teenage days, his father and new stepmother had family support from his father’s younger sister and her husband, Marion and William Wong, along with a large extended family. Chan’s father passed on in 1979 when he was twelve years old. Chan says that he did not get along well with his father growing up but says that his fear of his father has helped him understand a level of fear of God. Additionally, he added that he didn’t understand the love of God well until he himself became a father.
