She was involved in a boating accident on September 15, 2017, during a glorious day of wakeboarding and water skiing with family members on Christmas Lake in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Courtney had just climbed aboard the boat and taken off her life jacket as Ryan Novaczyk, her husband piloted a course for shore. She was thrown from the boat and her left foot was struck by the boat’s propeller.
Courtney was quickly hoisted back and onboard. Her younger sister who is a registered nurse, quickly tended to the wound, using the boat’s tow rope to apply a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Paramedics were already onshore to drive Courtney to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis when the boat finally got back with her.
