In July 2016, Bob had a headache that became increasingly worse as time went on and eventually caused him to stay up all night. Bob was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton in Milton, Massachusetts. A CAT scan showed that Bob had suffered a brain aneurysm. Dr. John Mahoney said that Bob should be taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He underwent emergency brain surgery. On November 1, 2016, Bob returned to WCVB-TV Channel 5 following 13 weeks of recovering.
