He was born in Los Angeles, California, to his parents Harry Hoffman and Lillian. Dustin is the younger of two sons including his brother Ronald. His father worked as a prop supervisor at Columbia Pictures before becoming a furniture salesman.

He was named after stage and silent screen actor Dustin Farnum. Dustin’ elder brother Ronald is a lawyer and economist. He is Jewish, from an Ashkenazi Jewish family of immigrants from Kyiv, Ukraine, and Iași, Romania.

Dustin Hoffman As Hook
