Limmy ( Full name: Brian Limond) is a Scottish comedian, Twitch streamer, and author. He started releasing comedy on his website and blog, Limmy.com while working as a website designer and Flash developer. His website contained various Flash-based projects.

Brian released a daily podcast called Limmy’s World of Glasgow in late 2006, which received interest from the mainstream British media.  Brian was commissioned by BBC Scotland to create a sketch show, Limmy’s Show after continuing his comedy work for several years. The show ran for three series and a Christmas special between 2010 and 2013.

It won two BAFTA Scotland awards. Brian returned to BBC Scotland with another sketch comedy show called Limmy’s Homemade Show. It had a one-off episode in 2018 and a full series in 2020. Brian has been engaged in various other pursuits, such as writing several books as well as performing live shows. In addition to that, Brian is a prolific user of online media platforms such as  YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, and Vine.

Employees of Black ID created a rival company called Flammable Jam, in the summer of 2000, where  Brian was a director. However, he sold his stake in the company to co-founder Donnie Kerrigan in 2006, so he could concentrate on his comedy career.

Brian is a Twitch streamer who has a regular viewership of 3k+ people, 430k+ followers, and streams on most days. He was listed by Scottish culture magazine The List at No. 14 on their “Hot 100” list in 2006. The Magazine was celebrating the people who made the biggest impact on cultural life in Scotland over that year. Brian took to the stage for two sold-out appearances in March 2007 at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. He played a character called Zack Eastwood in Consolevania and VideoGaiden in the same year.

The BBC commissioned a six-episode series of Limmy’s Show in June 2009. This was a sketch show which premiered on BBC Scotland in January 2010. In February 2011, the BBC commissioned a second series of Limmy’s Show, which premiered on BBC Scotland. Brian wrote a pilot for a sitcom based around Falconhoof, a recurring Limmy’s Show character. However, the show was turned down by BBC Scotland. Brian made a cameo appearance in The IT Crowd where he played a window cleaner with an unintelligible Glaswegian accent in the episode “The Final Countdown.”

The show aired in July 2010. He was given a regular segment in the second series of the Charlie Brooker news satire show called Weekly Wipe in 2014. Brian is best known for his live webcam chats, in which he interacts with fans and makes music. He wrote his first book titled Daft Wee Stories in 2015 which was published by Random House. Brian embarked on a UK book reading tour to promote the book. Three of the stories from the book were published in The Scotsman newspaper.

Brian performed four nights at the Clyde Auditorium in January 2016 and one night at the Hammersmith Apollo. He adapted material from these TV shows to become Limmy Live! Brian released his second book of short stories titled  That’s Your Lot on May 1, 2017. He embarked on a similar UK book reading tour to his first. In 2015, 2017, and 2020, he appeared on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast in. Also, he appeared on the Blindboy Podcast in 2020.

Brian has been noted for the parody tributes he always tweets on the announcement of a celebrity’s death. Brian invariably posts that he “had the pleasure of meeting [them] at a charity do once. [They were] surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.” His tweet was mistakenly reported as a genuine tribute by Sky News after the death of nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow. The BBC commissioned what was then a one-off special of Limmy’s Homemade Show in 2017. The show was broadcast in April 2018.

The show was originally intended to be a web series prior to being picked up by the BBC. Currently, the show is produced, performed, directed, filmed, and edited by Brian alone. It takes place in or around his home. A follow-up series was commissioned by the BBC and started airing in April 2020. Brian has stated the special is his final television program. He cited his mental health, as doing TV work made him “fucking suicidal”.
