Tony Kushner ( Full name: Anthony Robert Kushner ) is an American author, screenwriter, and playwright. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play in 1993 for his play Angels in America. He then adapted it into 2003 miniseries.
Tony has collaborated with director Steven Spielberg on the films Munich in 2005, Lincoln in 2012, and West Side Story in 2021. The former two earned him nominations for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. In 2013, Tonny won the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama.

In 2003, he received one from Columbia College Chicago. In 2006, he reserved an honorary doctorate from Brandeis University. Tony received an honorary Doctor of Letters from SUNY Purchase College in 2008. In May 2011, he received an honorary doctorate from CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice and an Honorary Doctorate from The New School. Tony,[12] and received an honorary Doctor of Letters from Ithaca College in May 2015.

Tony Kushner West Side Story
The 2021 American musical romantic drama film titled West Side Story was directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Tony. The film is the second feature-length adaptation of the 1957 stage musical of the same name. West Side Story stars Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler in her film debut with David Alvarez, Ariana DeBose, Mike Faist, and Rita Moreno in supporting roles.
Moreno served as an executive producer alongside Tony. The former starred in the 1961 film adaptation. West Side Story features music composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
