Kevin McCloud is a British designer, writer, and tv presenter. Since April 1999, he has presented the Channel 4 series titled Grand Designs. Kevin trained as a theatre designer after graduating. He worked on a wide variety of different productions,  including the set design for experimental rock group Harvey as well as the Wallbangers.

Later, he settled up his own lighting design practice and manufacturing business which he named  ‘McCloud Lighting.’ He at one point employed 26 people. Kevin’s work includes the carved and painted rococo-style vegetable ceiling found in the food halls at Harrods. He has done many projects in conjunction with J.J. Desmond Interiors and lighting fittings at Ely Cathedral, the Savoy Hotel, Edinburgh Castle, and the Dorchester Hotel. As of 2022, Kevin concentrates on journalism, television work, and product design, including work for British manufacturers.

In 1999, Kevin went on to write and present a program called Grand Designs that covered unusual and elaborate architectural homebuilding projects. The program was produced by Talkback Thames. He demonstrated his fluency in French and Italian in the course of the later series.
