Samuel Alito (Full Name: Samuel Anthony Alito Jr.) is a popular American lawyer and jurist who works as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He became nominated by President George W. Bush on October 31, 2005, and has worked since January 31, 2006. Samuel is the second Italian-American justice to work on the U.S. Supreme Court, following Antonin Scalia, and the eleventh Catholic.
He worked as the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) prior to joining the Supreme Court. Samuel is the 110th justice. In 2013, Samuel was considered “one of the most conservative justices on the Court”. Samuel has described himself as a “practical originalist”. His majority opinions in landmark cases include McDonald v. Chicago, Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, Murphy v. NCAA, Janus v. AFSCME, and Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

On October 31, George reported that he was nominating Samuel to O’Connor’s seat, and he submitted the nomination to the Senate on November 10. Samuel was unanimously rated “well qualified” to fill the Associate Justice post by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary, which measures the professional qualifications of a nominee.
