She is president of the RAD and creator of DDMIX. Her career as a ballerina began at Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet and after a year she moved to the Royal Ballet. In addition, when she was 20 she was a principal dancer and she retired from ballet in 2007.

Bussell was still at school when the choreographer Kenneth MacMillan noticed her exceptional technique. She was the leading role in his ballet The Prince of the Pagodas to Benjamin Britten’s music. In December 1989, she became a principal dancer at just 20 years old. She performed the major classical roles numerous times at Masha in Winter Dreams and Princess Rose in The Prince of the Pagodas, as well as Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beaut.
