Lynne Hybels Responds To Allegations

She wrote to Leanne Mellado in March 2017 saying she had been shocked and disoriented by the allegation of an affair and had eventually talked with the woman who Mellado said made the claim. Lynne wrote that the woman again had denied the affair. In October 2018, her husband Bill was slated to retire from his position at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois.

However, he resigned in April 2018 after allegations of sexual misconduct against him. An independent review found the allegations to be credible although Bill has denied all allegations including the one that said that he ran afoul of church teachings by engaging in inappropriate behavior with women in his congregation. Vonda Dyer came forward in 2018 and publicly disclosed how Bill had come on to her in a hotel room in Sweden.

Vonda had no idea how her confession would change her life. She had no idea that the church that she loved would not believe her and the nine other women as claims mounted. Dyer did not imagine that they would assassinate her character publicly. She was naïve and could not imagine being slandered,  persecuted, lied about, and continually bullied by the church on a global scale for reasons she may never fully know.

Vonda Dyer’s husband Scott Dyer, a pastor at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship outside Dallas, said he had no idea how his wife’s decision to come forward would affect both of them. Willow Creek Community Church and the Global Leadership Network believed Bill and called Vonda a liar in front of the church that she and her husband loved and had given their lives to help build.
