Yevgenia Albats is a popular Russian investigative journalist, political scientist, writer, and radio host. Currently, Yevgenia works as a chief editor of The New Times magazine. Since 2004, Yevgenia has hosted Absolute Albats, a talk show on Echo Moskvy, the only remaining liberal radio station in Russia.

She began her professional work as a freelance reporter with Komsomolskaya Pravda, while Yevgenia was still a senior at the Moscow State University’s Department of Journalism. Following graduation, Yevgenia succeeded in getting a job as a low-paid assistant at the so-called “letters” desk at Izvestia Sunday supplement, Nedelya. She was fired from Izvestia in 1997 following completing a major article exposing alleged illegal activities by the FSB.

Yevgenia was returned to her position by a court decision on 15 March 1997. In 2007, Yevgenia became a deputy chief editor of The New Times magazine. On 16 January 2009 Yevgenia replaced Irena Lesnevskaya as the Chief Editor of the magazine. Since 2013, Yevgenia is one of the jury members of the European Press Prize.
