Vanessa Long ( Full name Vanessa Griffin Long) is an American Pastor. She was married to the late Bishop Eddie Long, the pastor of the New Birth Missionary Church located in Lithonia, Georgia. The management of the megachurch announced on a Sunday that Bishop Eddie died from cancer at the age of 63 years.
New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is a megachurch based in DeKalb County, Georgia, near Lithonia. The church embraced a Pentecostal theology not typically found in African-American Baptist churches. The church was launched in 1939 in Scottdale. At first, it was called Travelers Rest Baptist Church. In 1983, the church moved to Decatur and changed its name to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. The late Eddie Long took over as pastor in 1987. By then, the church had 300 members but later the membership grew up to 25,000.

According to the Mecklenburg County records, the church defaulted on its payments to Evangelical Christian Credit Union for a $10 million loan.
The church opened another branch called “New Birth Memphis” in Memphis, Tennessee on August 15, 2004. However, the New Birth Memphis no longer exists. There were more churches opened such as New Birth Metro, New Birth Oakland, New Birth Knoxville, and New Birth California. The church was chosen by the family of the widow of Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, to host and also officiate her funeral in 2006. The funeral was attended by four former USA Presidents i.e George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter.
According to a statement released by the church, Bishop Eddie Long died on January 15, 2017, from an aggressive form of cancer. Stephen A. Davis took over as Eddie’s successor at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church based in Lithonia. Stephen was before serving as the pastor of the New Birth Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama, he still remained pastor of Birmingham. However, he resigned in June 2018. He was succeeded by Jamal Bryant, pastor of Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland on November 19, 2018, He resigned as Pastor for Empowerment Temple Church in early December 2018.
