The Giants planned to release the journalsit immediately after the NFL and the NFLPA reached a collective bargaining agreement although the New York Giants still retained the rights to Tiki. The New York Post ran a news story in 2010, reporting that Tiki was seeking to return to the NFL  since he was not financially stable.

Although he said on April 28, 2011, that his comeback was “not about the money, ” the story said that Tiki was not in a position to pay his divorce settlement with his ex-wife. The Giants officially removed Tiki from the retired list on July 28, 2011, giving him a chance and freedom to sign with any team. Tiki started working out with the Miami Dolphins on August 2, 2011. His agent, Mark Lepselter confirmed on September 5, 2011, that no NFL team was interested in signing him.
