She also served as an adjunct professor in Columbia University’s Master of Fine Arts program. She graduated from Connecticut College in 2000. Sloane has published work in or edited for various magazines and newspapers. She worked as a weekly columnist for the British newspaper The Independent in 2011.

She is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and was the founding columnist for The New York Times “Townies” op-ed series. Straus, Farrar, and Giroux released Sloane’s debut novel The Clasp in October 2015. The book was optioned by Universal Pictures in 2016. Part comedy of manners, part treasure hunt, the first novel from the writer whom David Sedaris calls “perfectly, relentlessly funny”.
