Sherry Hughes is an American journalist and meteorologist. Currently, she serves as a staff meteorologist and multi-media journalist at WCPO in Cincinnati. Sherry is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. 

Additionally, she holds the Seal of Approval for her work from both organizations. Sherry earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from the University of South Carolina and is also a graduate of the Broadcast Meteorology Program at Mississippi State University.

She is most proud of giving her time and resources to charitable community endeavors such as the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Breast Cancer campaign. In addition, she volunteers in American Red Cross, and Cincinnati Freestore Foodbank projects to feed those in need.

She regularly appears on the weekend 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, taking the place of meteorologist Steve Norris who left the station.

Before WCPO, Sherry worked at WTSP in Tampa, Fla., where she served as a meteorologist and news reporter since 2005. Previously, she worked as a meteorologist and news reporter at three additional stations, KSAZ Phoenix, WNCN Raleigh, N.C., and WCSC Charleston, S.C.

When Sherry was going through chemo for her breast cancer her hair shed rapidly. So, she got in front of it through haircuts, scarves, wigs, and hats. Sherry’s stylist and dear friend Verna Meadows took the clippers and gently cut it all leaving a clean dome that she embraced.

Sherry was diagnosed with breast cancer on July 30, 2019. On September 6, she announced it on WCPO 6 p.m. broadcast. Sherry went through chemotherapy and is now feeling well. She also lost her mother to Breast Cancer.
