The same summer, Royal started working at 3TV as the channel’s weekend meteorologist, Later, he went for his American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval, both tv and radio broadcasting. During his first 12 years working at 3TV, Royal covered a tornado live from the station helicopter. He was on the air during the time when the under-construction Mill Avenue Bridge collapsed into the roaring floodwaters of the Salt River.
Also, Royal covered the eruption of Mount Kilauea in Hawaii. He was present at the 50th-anniversary services at the USS Arizona Memorial that was held in 1991 and also served as the original crew of Good Morning Arizona. In 1996, Royal and his family relocated to Atlanta. There, he became the Chief Meteorologist at WXIA-TV. Chasing hurricanes was his favorite part of living near the east coast because it never happened in Arizona. After WXIA-TV, Royal returned to 3TV in 2001.
Currently, he is the Arizona Family’s Chief Meteorologist and works weekday nights, appears on Good Evening Arizona, 3TV News at 8, 3TV News at 9, as well as 3TV News at 10.
