Ron Gant is an American television news anchor and former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as an Atlanta Braves All-Star player from 1987 to 1993. Gant co-anchors Good Day Atlanta at 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays. He also serves as a co-host on WAGA-TV’s morning news program Good Day Atlanta.
Gant joined the 30–30 club in 1990 and 1991, while with the Braves. Where he batted and threw right-handed. Gant also played for Cincinnati Reds in 1995, St. Louis Cardinals from 1996 to 1998, Philadelphia Phillies from 1999 to 2000, and Anaheim Angels in 2000 among others.

Kent Hrbek used to serve as an American Major League Baseball first baseman. He played for 14 years in a baseball career for the Minnesota Twins. He was involved in a controversial play with Gant in Game 2 of the 1991 Series. This happened when Gant was coming back to first base after widely rounding the base on a single.
Then Hrbek applied a tag to Gant’s leg and Gant ran into Hrbek. Drew Coble, the umpire, called Gant out, ruling that forward progress would have caused Gant to step off the bag. This made Gant dispute angrily the call and had to be restrained when Coble refused to change it. This move was later nicknamed the “T-Rex Tag.”

Gant was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 4th round of the 1983 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his MLB debut for the Braves in 1987 and played there until 1993. However, Gant suffered a dirt accident that left him injured on the left foot.
