Mike Lynch is an American journalist currently working as a sports correspondent for WCVB Channel 5. He is also the host of the podcast UnAnchored Boston with Bob Lobel. He was previously the principal weeknight sports anchor for WCVB for 34 years since September 1985 and a member of the WCVB sports team for 37 years since March 1982.

Before joining WCVB, he served as a sports director for Boston’s WMRE Radio, formerly WITS, from 1977 through 1983. His broadcasting career started in 1974 at WLYN Radio in Lynn, where Mike worked as a color commentator for high school football and basketball broadcasts.

He initiated “High Five,” a weekly NewsCenter 5 report highlighting the achievements of high school student-athletes in 1985. For more than 30 years, these unique segments have been lauded by critics and earned several honors for a continuing commitment to providing high school athletics.

He also proceeds to be instrumental in the yearly production of “High 5 Salutes Thanksgiving Heroes,” WCVB’s half-hour wrap-up program of all the traditional high school football rivalries over the Bay State.

Mike was voted Massachusetts “Sportscaster of the Year” by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association a total of 16 times and was the many honors of anyone in the history of the award. The SportsCenter 5 won the United Press International Award for “Best Sports Reporting” in the country in 1987
