JuJu Chang (Full Name: Hyunju “Juju” Chang) is an American journalist who is now the co-anchor of ABC News’ “Nightline.” Before, she served as a special correspondent and fill-in anchor for Nightline. Juju worked also as the news anchor for ABC News’ morning news program Good Morning America from 2009 until 2011. Besides her roles at ABC, she has also hosted a series for PBS.

In 1999, JuJu hosted a seven-part television series called The Art of Women’s Health. Due to her work in television journalism, she has earned several awards. JuJu’s received her first journalistic award which was an Alfred I. duPont Award in 1995 for a series on women’s health produced with Peter Jennings.

Besides the duPont Award, she has received two Gracie Awards. JuJu has received three Emmy awards for her work with ABC, such as one for her role as a correspondent on ABC’s live coverage of California wildfires in 2008. She has also earned a Freddie award (for health and medical media) for The Art of Women’s Health, a series she anchored for PBS.

She was born in Seoul, Third Republic of Korea, to her parents Okyong and Palki Chang. After her family’s emigration to the U.S. in 1969 Juju grew up in Sunnyvale, California. She has four siblings.

She studied at Marian A. Peterson High School and after a year joined Adrian C. Wilcox High School. JuJu graduated in 1983. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and communications from Stanford University in 1987.

Neal formerly served as the president of NBC News and worked as a news producer at ABC News. JuJu and Neal Shapiro married December 2, 1995. The couple has three sons namely: Travis Shapiro, Jared Shapiro, and Mason Blake Shapiro. Their son Shapiro is a sophomore History major at Tufts Campus with a minor in Political Science.


She works as a co-anchor of ABC News’ “Nightline.” Juju was named co-anchor of Nightline on March 27, 2014 succeeding Cynthia McFadden, who departed ABC to join NBC News. Prior to that, JuJu was the news anchor on Good Morning America where she covered on the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010.

In March 2011 she left Good Morning America to take a full-time role on Nightline, ABC News. She has contributed several reports to ABC’s news magazine 20/20, such as a piece on Tanzania’s black market for albino body parts in 2009. Juju started work at ABC in 1984 and in 1991 she worked as a producer and off-air reporter for ABC World News Tonight.

Following a year at KGO-TV, JuJu rejoined ABC News in 1996, taking up the position of correspondent for the ABC affiliate news service NewsOne in Washington D.C. At NewsOne she reported the White House, Capitol Hill and the presidential election in 1996. Coming back to World News Tonight in 1998, JuJu reported stories like Hurricane George, the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
