In December 2020, Zients took a leave from his position as chief executive officer of Cranemere, which is an investment company.
From 2018 to 2020 he was also a member of Facebook’s board of directors. The Biden transition announced that Zients will serve as both a Counselor to the President and a Coordinator of the COVID-19 response in the Biden administration in December 2020.
