He started broadcasting following being fired by the Hawks, serving for USA Network’s coverage of the NBA, such as playoff games, and CBS prior to being hired by the Knicks. In the 1985 NBA playoffs, Hubie lent his services for CBS once again while still coaching the Knicks, who were not in the playoffs, teaming up alongside Brent Musburger. After his dismissal from the Knicks, CBS hired him in December 1986 full-time as a broadcaster and worked with Verne Lundquist as the third team during the select regular season and playoff games, promoted to the second team the next season.

In 1988 when Hubie became questioned how long he will remain involved with the game of basketball, Hubie responded “I will stay involved in some capacity until the day Verne Lundquist dies.” CBS named Hubie in 1988, to replace Billy Cunningham as its lead analyst with play-by-play man Dick Stockton. He remained with CBS until the end of their NBA coverage after the 1990 NBA Finals, then served on the local broadcasts for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Detroit Pistons prior to joining TNT in the early 1990s.

Following his departure from the Grizzlies, Hubie signed with ABC as their top NBA analyst. Hubie served alongside Al Michaels and Mike Breen on some regular-season and playoff games, such as the 2005 NBA Finals and 2006 NBA Finals, originally he was replaced as a lead analyst by both Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. He now calls games on ABC and ESPN serving alongside such play-by-play announcers as Mark Jones and Mike Breen. Hubie also contributes to ESPN Radio’s coverage of the NBA playoffs as well as NBA Finals.
