Dinesh D’Souza ( Full name: Dinesh Joseph D’Souza ) is an Indian-American filmmaker, author, right-wing political commentator, conspiracy theorist, and provocateur. He has written over a dozen books, several of those books are New York Times best-sellers.

Bombay native moved to the United States as an exchange student. He then graduated from Dartmouth College. Dinesh became a USA citizen by naturalization in 1991. He served as the president of The King’s College from 2010 to 2012,  a Christian school based in New York City. Dinesh resigned after an alleged adultery scandal.

Dinesh D’souza Family

He was born to his parents in Bombay and raised in a middle-class family. Dinesh’s parents were Roman Catholics from the state of Goa in Western India. His dad served as an executive with Johnson & Johnson while his mother was a housewife. While at Dartmouth, Dinesh wrote for an independent, student-edited, alumni and Collegiate Network called The Dartmouth Review, a subsidized publication.

During his time at the Review, he faced criticism for authoring an article publicly outing homosexual members of the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance student organization. Dinesh became the editor of a monthly journal, The Prospect, after graduating from Dartmouth. The Prospect is a publication financed by a group of Princeton University alumni.

He previously dated fellow conservatives, Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter. Then, Dinesh met Dixie Brubaker while working at the White House. He and Brubaker married in 1992. The couple shares a daughter named  Danielle D’Souza Gill. Currently, Danielle is a writer and a member of the Women for Trump Coalition. Dinesh and Dixie lived together in California, United States until Dinesh moved to New York as the president of The King’s College in 2010.

He maintained a residence near San Diego, California, where  Dixie and Danielle remained. In 2012, Dinesh and Dixie divorced. While Dinesh was being sentenced for campaign finance fraud in 2014, Dixie wrote a letter to the judge alleging that Dinesh had physically abused her. She claimed that “in April 2012 … he, using his purple belt karate skills, kicked me in the head and shoulder, knocking me to the ground and creating injuries that pain me to this day.”

Dinesh’s attorney for his campaign finance case called Benjamin Brafman dismissed the allegation as completely false. Dinesh married a conservative political activist and mother of two, Deborah Fancher on March 19, 2016, Deborah emigrated from Venezuela at age 10. The wedding took place near San Diego with the father of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) named Rafael Cruz officiating the wedding.

He joined Jesuit St. Stanislaus High School based in Bombay. Dinesh earned his high school diploma in 1976 and later completed his 11th and 12th years at Sydenham College,  in Bombay. He became a foreign exchange student in 1978 and traveled to the United States under the Rotary Youth Exchange. Denish attended the local public school based in Patagonia, Arizona. Later, he matriculate at Dartmouth College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1983. Dinesh was a  member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Dinesh D’souza Jail

He contributed $10,000 in 2012 to the senate campaign of Wendy Long on behalf of himself and his wife. They agreed in writing to attribute that contribution as $5,000 from himself and $5,000 from his wife. Dinesh directed two other people to give Long a total of $20,000 extra. On this, he agreed to reimburse and later fulfilled the agreement.

By then, the Election Act limited campaign contributions to $5,000 to any candidate from any individual. Dinesh pleaded guilty two years later in federal court to one felony charge of using a “straw donor” in making the illegal campaign contribution. Dinesh was sentenced to eight months in a halfway house near his home in San Diego,  a $30,000 fine, and five years’ probation. He was issued a pardon by President Donald Trump in 2018.

Dinesh released the documentary film 2016: Obama’s America in 2012. Thi documentary is an anti-Obama polemic based on Dinesh’s 2010 book titled The Roots of Obama’s Rage. The documentary earned $33 million, making it the highest-grossing conservative documentary of all time. Also, it became one of the highest-grossing documentaries of any kind.

Since then, Dinesh has released four other documentary films titled : America: Imagine the World Without Her was released in 2014, Hillary’s America was released in 2016, Death of a Nation was released in 2018, as well as Trump Card in 2020. Because of their promotion of conspiracy theories and falsehoods, and their incendiary nature, those films and commentary have generated considerable controversy.
