On April 6, a Saturday marked David’s 50th birthday. The day also marked his wedding day, as he exchanged vows with his longtime partner, Charlie  Urstard a real estate investor in a New Orleans ceremony.

“It was nothing short of a banner day and night. A birthday and a wedding all rolled into one,” David wrote in a Twitter post that included pictures of the event, which included a weather-themed birthday cake. “I’m so fortunate to have so much love and support from so many friends and family.”

Among those present: was the couple’s Boston terrier, Dolly, who served as “best dog.” Charlie, who also celebrated an April birthday at the wedding ceremony, followed with an Instagram post of his own, consisting of a photo of him and Bernard, both beaming, and the simple caption: “We got married.”

After the ceremony, David turned to his other love: meteorology, providing a string of updates on the severe weather that moved through the area Sunday night.

David started his career in television meteorology forecasting in 1993, in the Tornado Alley region of the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma. He served first at television stations KZTV in Corpus Christi, Texas, and KVII in Amarillo, Texas. Later on, he started working in 1994 at Tulsa, Oklahoma TV station KJRH where David was the meteorologist for the morning and midday news programs.

He went to WWL-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1997. David was the meteorologist for the morning news programs at the station for a period of eight years. Over his coverage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, he received critical praise from Dave Walker, TV columnist for the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

David left WWL in the summer of 2005, for a new position at Miami TV station WFOR, a CBS affiliate. David was sent back to New Orleans to cover the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina six weeks after his departure from New Orleans. In addition, David was named CBS News national hurricane consultant in 2008. He reported hurricanes Gustav, Ike, Isaac, Irene, and Sandy for the network on the CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, Face The Nation, and CBS Sunday Morning.
