David Sims is an American sports broadcaster. He currently serves as the tv play-by-play commentator for the Seattle Mariners. Dave is a three-time National Sports Media Association’s Washington state Sportscaster of the Year. He won the award in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Dave is in his 16th season serving as the co-host of Basketball with Mike Krzyzewski and Beyond with Coach K on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

He was the television play-by-play host for the UFL on Versus in 2009. From Sept. 1989 to Feb. 1993, Dave co-hosted the midday show with Ed Coleman on New York’s Sports Radio 66 WFAN. He later became a weekend sports anchor at WCBS-TV in New York where he worked from 1995 until 1998. Also, Dave was a radio host for the New York Knicks from 1986 until 1993.

His play-by-play announcing career started in 1990 when he worked as the radio voice of Temple Owls football in the Big East until 1992.  He later moved to TV and became the TV Voice of the Big East Conference football game of the week. Dave worked there from 1993 to 1994  and again from 1998 until 2007.

Dave started his journalism career by serving as a sportswriter for the New York Daily News. In the early 1980s,  Dave served as a sports reporter for the short-lived “Satellite News Channel”. He later became the host of WNBC’s SportsNight where he worked from 1986 until 1988 taking over from Jack Spector.  Dave hosted a five-hour nightly sports call-in show that was a precursor to the all-sports talk format of WFAN.

During the 1988 Summer Olympics, Dave was hired by Michael Weisman as a reporter where he covered track and field for NBC Sports’ telecast. In 1991, he became part of ESPN as a play-by-play announcer for college basketball. In 1998, he added college football. He had to call the game from a neutral standpoint as a broadcaster and not as the usual Mariners broadcaster because the game was broadcast on FOX in both markets even though his team lost to a perfect game. 4 months after calling Philip Humber’s perfect game. Dave called the game for Root Sports in Seattle where Félix Hernández threw the first perfect game in Mariners’ history and this was the first time that one broadcaster had to call two perfect games in the same Major League Baseball season.
