Clarence Thomas is an American jurist. He currently serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Clarence was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall. He has served in the Supreme Court of the United States since 1991. Clarence is the second African American, after Marshall, to serve on the Court. He is the longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy’s retirement in 2018.

Myers Anderson had little formal education. He built a thriving fuel oil business that also sold ice. When Clarence was 10, Myers started taking the family to help at a farm every day from sunrise to sunset. He believed in hard work and self-reliance. Also, Myers counseled the children to “never let the sun catch you in bed.” He impressed upon his grandsons the importance of a good education.
