On January 6, 2020, Clare and her colleague, Mickey Ferguson threw a banana and two tangerines at Harlem Pearce who is a viewer of WBRC during a segment. Both Mickey and Clare went ahead to apologize to Pearce through a video. Pearce accepted the apology of Mickey but declined Clare’s apology since he claimed that hers was insincere and a lie. The whole incident brought uproar across social media platforms since Pearce is of Black descent and hence the incident brought a lot of racism issues.
