Christof is a  former correspondent for Al Jazeera and America’s news magazine called America Tonight.

Christof launched his production career while still an undergraduate at Connecticut College. He produced his first documentary titled “Left Behind,” which talked about AIDS orphans in Kenya. At film festivals, Christof’s film won over a dozen awards, including HBO Films Best Student Film Award, the International Documentary Association’s David Wolper Award, and also a Student Academy Award. Christof became part of TV  as one of the network’s first employees in 2005. In the same year, Christof won a nomination for his first Emmy for his report from Mogadishu, Somalia.

The report was about the rise and fall of the Islamic Court Union. Christof trekked in the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo as he covered the exploitation of child gold miners. He made the treacherous journey via the desert to cross the Mexico/US border. Christof walked along with migrants who were trying to reach American soil. He also camped on the southern shores of Yemen. While there, Christof discovered the bodies of over two-dozen refugees who drowned while attempting to escape the violence in Somalia.
