Charles Gibson was born in Evanston, Illinois, in the United States in 1943, to Georgianna Law and Burdett Gibson. His father Burdett grew up in Schenectady and graduated from Union College in 1923. In 2007, Charles contributed $75,000 to Union College to facilitate the creation of the Burdett Gibson Class of 1923 Scholarship. Charles Dana Gibson is his great-nephew.
