Cenk Uygur ( Full name: Cenk Kadir Uygur ) is a Turkish American attorney, journalist, media host, and political commentator. He currently serves as the creator of an American left-wing sociopolitical news and commentary program called The Young Turks. The program is known for promoting progressive politics and left-wing ideals. Cenk is also the co-founder of Justice Democrats.

Prior to launching his career as a political commentator, Cenk briefly served as an associate attorney in Washington, D.C., and New York City, United States of America. As a young man, he supported social conservative positions. However, Cenk began to identify as a progressive as his views evolved. Apart from hosting The Young Turks, Cenk made an appearance on MSNBC as a political commentator.

He hosted a weeknight commentary show on the network from January to June 2011 when Al Sharpton took over. After he left MSNBC,  Cenk launched another weeknight commentary show on Current TV. The show aired from December 5, 2011, to August 15, 2013. He served as the chief news officer at Current TV from 2012 to 2013, succeeding Keith Olbermann.

On October 21, 2010, MSNBC hired Cenk as a contributor and substitute anchor for the network as a result of exposure on the Air America radio network. Cenk was appointed on January 21, 2011, to serve as the host of the 6 p.m. Eastern slot on MSNBC as the anchor of a new primetime edition of MSNBC Live.

Those changed after the network parted ways with Keith Olbermann, leading to rearrangement of the time slots of MSNBC’s other primetime shows.
