Bryant Gumbel is an American sportscaster. He is best known for his role as a co-host of NBC’s Today for more than 15 years. He is the younger brother to CBS sportscaster Greg Gumbel. Bryant joined NBC Sports in the fall of 1975 as their co-host of the National Football League pre-game show called GrandStand with Jack Buck.
From 1975 to January 1982, he served as the host of many sporting events for NBC such as Major League Baseball, college basketball as well as the National Football League. Bryant returned to sportscasting for NBC in 1988 when he hosted the prime-time coverage of the 1988 Summer Olympics. He covered the event from Seoul and the PGA Tour in 1990.
Later, he joined CBS, where he hosted different shows prior to becoming the co-host of the network’s morning show The Early Show on November 1, 1999. While hosting The Early Show on the morning of September 11, 2001, Bryant became the first person to announce the September 11 attacks to CBS viewers.
