Bryan Norcross (Full Name: Bryan S. Norcross) is an American television meteorologist and hurricane specialist. Currently, Bryan works as a contributor and hurricane specialist at FOX Weather since March 2022. Before, Bryan served as a weekend meteorologist at WPLG-TV Channel 10 in Miami, Florida, an ABC affiliate, since February 26, 2018.

Bryan also worked as a hurricane specialist for The Weather Channel in Atlanta. Prior to that, he worked as a chief meteorologist at WTVJ-TV (the NBC-owned and operated television station in Miami, Florida), where Bryan became famous due to his part in that station’s coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. In addition, he was Director of Meteorology at WFOR-TV, the CBS-owned and operated television station in Miami, and hurricane analyst at CBS News in New York City. His first broadcasting job was as a disc jockey on WTAI, an AM station in Melbourne, Florida serving there part-time in 1968 and 1969.

He got his start in television as an engineer at WFSU-TV in Tallahassee, Florida while in college, moving to WXIA-TV (then WQXI-TV) in Atlanta as a maintenance engineer and technical director in 1972 after graduation. While at that station Bryan was promoted to acting Production Manager in 1974 before being transferred to KUSA-TV (then KBTV) in Denver in 1975 to work as the evening director of the station’s newscasts.

Bryan was assigned to produce (and for over a year direct as well) the 10:00 pm news which became the market’s highest-rated news program in 1976. He was promoted and transferred to WLKY-TV in Louisville as News Director in 1977.

On a house-hunting trip to Louisville in January 1978, a massive snowstorm hit the city. Bryan was the only news person able to get to the television station and went on the air with the help of two overnight engineers, providing the city with the only TV coverage of the storm. Bryan returned to Florida State University for a master’s program In 1979.

Most importantly, he worked as a Hurricane Specialist at The Weather Channel. Bryan also served as Sr. Executive Director of Weather Content and Presentation at The Weather Channel From 2011 to 2013, where he led the winter storm naming initiative in 2012. His primary role as of February 2018, had been as a Hurricane Specialist back at WPLG-TV, the ABC affiliate in Miami, where he started his Miami broadcasting tenure in 1983.

He moved to WTVJ, the NBC-owned station, as Chief Meteorologist where he became known for his coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1990. As Andrew passed just south of Miami in the early morning hours of Monday, August 24, 1992, his 23-hour marathon broadcast became several viewers’ (and radio listeners’) only link to the outside world. Bryan’s television station was the station able to broadcast through the entire hurricane event.

During the worst part of the storm, some people called into the station to ask for life-saving advice. Over the entire ordeal, he remained calm, steady, and knowledgeable. Bryan joined WFOR as Director of Meteorology in 1996. He gave up day-to-day weather casting responsibilities to concentrate on hurricanes and emergency communications issues in 2006.
