Bill  Engvall ( Full name: William Ray Engvall Jr.) is an American comedian and actor. He is best known for his work as a stand-up comic, his signature “Here’s Your Sign” bit, and also as a member of the Blue Collar Comedy group. Bill moved to Southern California in 1990 where he dedicated all his time to full-time comedy.

His early notoriety came as the host of the cable show called A Pair of Jokers with Rosie O’Donnell. Also, Bill appeared on The Golden Palace, a stockbroker turned aspiring comic playing Blanche’s son called Matthew. His other early appearances included working as an A&E Networks host of An Evening at The Improv and stand-up routines on The Tonight Show as well as the Late Show with David Letterman.

He was born to his father William Ray Engvall Sr. and his mother on July 27, 1957, in Galveston, Texas, United States of America. William Ray was a U.S. Navy doctor before he went into private practice. Bill spent most of his childhood living in Galveston prior to relocating to Winslow, Arizona. He later moved back near Dallas, Texas during his middle school.

But while there, he became a member of the Xi Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order and left college before graduating to work in a series of jobs, such as tour guide at Inner Space Caverns, as well as a disc jockey in a Dallas, Texas nightclub.

While working as a disc jockey, Bill t ventured into stand-up comedy at amateur and also open mic nights in Dallas. In 2021, Bill graduated with a degree in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University and became an ordained minister.

Bill’s career breakthrough came in 1992 w after he was named Best Male Standup at the American Comedy Awards. Soon after, his first role as a series regular followed when Bill was cast in the ABC series titled Delta appearing as Delta Burke.  Sadly, the show lasted for only one season and Bill went back to making the rounds of comedy clubs as well as the occasional tv appearance.

He did this same thing until 1996 when he was cast in the NBC version of The Jeff Foxworthy Show with his fellow comic and best friend called Jeff Foxworthy. Bill released the first of a series of successful comedy albums, called Here’s Your Sign in 1996 signed by Warner Bros. Records. The album was based on his signature stage bit and was certified Platinum which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Country album chart.

Due to part of the single and music video of the same title which Bill collaborated with a country singer called Travis Tritt., he managed to release 8 more comedy albums including Dorkfish in 1998 as well as  Aged and Confused in 2009. Bill attended the NASCAR After The Lap event in Las Vegas in 2011.

He launched a new chapter in his career on June 6, 2011, as he took over as the host of the re-launched show called Lingo on GSN.  In an interview with American Profile magazine, Bill stated that he jumped at the chance to host the show because his friend Foxworthy had hosted the show called Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

Bill had been a fan of Lingo since it aired a few years prior to ending in 2007. The comedian admitted that his wife always beat him to the answers. Bill said was asked if there were any plans to have buddies Foxworthy or Larry the Cable Guy appear on Lingo, and he replied “You never know! I would love to have them on the show because it would be a blast. I would really dig that.”

He and best friend Jeff Foxworthy launched the first of six Blue Collar Comedy Tours in 2000.  The tours featured in it Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White. The two were largely responsible for their breakout success. Each of the six years of the tour spawned three films, a satellite radio show,  as well as a tv series, Blue Collar TV on The WB Network. The tour became very successful. The actor made an announcement on August 11, 2021, via his Facebook page stating that he would retire from touring in late 2022.

The actor saw his highest score of 24 during the third week of competition with a Paso Doble to the Lone Ranger theme song.

The judges placed him and Slater at the bottom of the leaderboard throughout the rest of the show. However, an enormous fan base kept the two in the competition, leading to higher-scoring contestants, e.g. Leah Remini, Elizabeth Berkley, Brant Daugherty, Snooki, and Christina Milian being voted out instead. On November 18, Bill and Slater, along with Corbin Bleu, Amber Riley,  and Jack Osbourne made it to the finals with  Bill and Slater finishing in 4th place.
