Paul Goldberger is an American architecture critic, author, and lecturer. He is best known for his “Sky Line” column in The New Yorker. Paul started working as a reporter at The New York Times in 1972. Shortly after, he was assigned to write the obituary of architect Louis Kahn. Louis died suddenly of a heart attack in a bathroom in New York’s Pennsylvania Station. The following year,  Paul was named an architecture critic and he worked alongside Ada Louise Huxtable until 1982.

He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for his architecture criticism in The Times. New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani presented  Paul with the city’s Preservation Achievement Award in 1996 in recognition of the impact of his work on historic preservation. Paul served as the Dean of Parsons The New School for Design ( the art and design college of The New School) from July 2004 until June 2006.

Currently, he serves as the Joseph Urban Professor of Design at the institution.  Paul suggested in a May 2005 New Yorker column  that, the best solution for rebuilding Ground Zero would focus on residential use mixed with cultural as well as memorial elements. He is the author of Up from Zero: Politics, Architecture, and the Rebuilding of New York and The City Observed, New York, a Guide to the Architecture of Manhattan.
