Janet Langhart (Full Name: Janet Leola Langhart Cohen) is a popular American television journalist and author. Currently, Janet works as president and CEO of Langhart Communication since 2000. She is also a Playwright of Race & Reconciliation in America. Janet is also the Editor of Race and Reconciliation. Janet has authored two memoirs, Love in Black and White (2007) with her husband and My Life in Two Americas; From Rage to Reason (2004).
In June 2009, Janet’s one-act play Anne and Emmett, inspired by the lives of Anne Frank and Emmett Till, debuted at the United States Holocaust Museum. In 1962, Janet started her career in Chicago as a model, where she served for Marshall Field’s and the Ebony Fashion Fair. In 1967, Janet received the title of Miss Chicagoland.
At the age of 29, Janet became the first black “weathergirl” for WBBM-TV in 1970, having formerly been the “weather gal” at channel 26, WCIU. Around this time, Janet also started hosting an early morning interview program for women at WISH-TV in Indianapolis; it was titled “Indy Today.” Working on both shows made it necessary for Janet to commute between Indianapolis and Chicago.
