Barbara Barry Bio | Wiki
Barbara Barry is an American designer. She has a philosophy of making some really strong decisions, which for her, have been really consistent all along. Barbara is the epitome of her own designs: confident, graceful, and clear. She has built an entire empire, a worldwide design firm, and collections with the likes of Baker Furniture, Ann Sacks, and Kallista—on the trust of her own instincts.
After returning home from Europe, the designer opened a cheese shop in Mendocino. People first took notice of her penchant for design. Later on, one thing led gracefully to another. “The world was very different. There wasn’t the internet, and there wasn’t as much access to materials and to companies,” Barbara reflects. She just happened to be in the right place at the right time.” Eventually, she moved to Los Angeles where she is still based today. Barbara established her design firm in 1985.
She was very fortunate to be able to connect in the design world. Barbara just started drawing everything. If she wanted something, she drew it. And she just found a Mexican upholsterer and she asked, ‘Can we make this?’ And Barbara learned how furniture was made by working in places like that. Design is an expression, and she looks back now and realizes she just had a lot of energy and an opinion.
Barbara Barry Age
She was born in California, United States of America. Barbara has not shared her birth details and its therefore not possible to determine her exact age, but from her appearance, the designer must be in her 70s.
Barbara Barry Height
She is a woman of above-average stature. Barbara stands at a height of 5 ft 6 in ( Approx 1.68 m).
Barbara Barry Family
She was born and raised by her parents in California, United States of America. Barbara can be credited as one of the formative designers who established what the look of the state could be. Creamy, simple color palettes and nods to American Craftsman. Also, she had a hand in Hollywood glamour and indisputable Californian practicality which are present throughout. Her own instincts for design grew out of an organic, natural passion. Barbara spent some time in art school and later set off sans diploma to Europe to meet the great loves of the continent: wine and cheese.
Barbara’s sense of direction hit her early, inspired by her Californian upbringing. She came from a family of painters, and for her, design is all about a way of looking, a way of seeing the world. Barbara’s mother had a particular influence on her. She painted all over the walls and was a Renaissance painter, she mixed her own paints and never really traveled but she channeled Michelangelo, and Tiepolo. Her mother was a real eccentric woman. We hated it then, ‘Our crazy mom’—but I look back and see so much I got from her.” Saya Barbara.
Barbara Barry Husband
The Los Angeles-based interior and furniture designer manages to pull off a near-impossible balancing act. She merges simplicity with 1940s Hollywood glam. As the designer rose to fame due to her career, she decided not to share her persona life with the public. Barbara has always been secretive in matters to do with her marital status.
Barbara Barry Designer
Design is an expression, and Barbara looks back now and realizes she just had a lot of energy and an opinion. Barbara has some strong, eccentric tendencies, as well. For one thing, the designer is adamantly against the use of patterns in her designs and products. To her, life is a pattern, so she is an anti-pattern in terms of decorating though she also doesn’t like to use the term “decorating”. Patterning comes from your clothes, your face, the fruit, the children, the books, the art, and the stuff. Barbara’s hard to resolve the result of years of study towards a single goal: calm.
It’s a way of surviving. It’s all she does. Barbara groped in the world to make simplicity, harmony, beauty, and calmness. It’s not difficult to see why she has been so wildly successful in her field. The trust Barbara finds in her opinions, and her sense of direction is admirable to the point of emulation. It has become an aspirational quality, but one that can only be gleaned with the passing of time. According to her, it is just something that builds,” she says. It is altimately important to look inward and try to understand what it is that you have. It’s easy to see what Barbara has to give to the world, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
